Orientation and Onboarding

Clinical Orientation

This is a 2 day classroom and hands-on education, didactic-PowerPoint, health stream (online competencies) and electronic medical record education for newly hired nurses, nurse techs, nurse externs, and nurse aids. We want to ensure you have all the basic knowledge to make your 1st day on the floor a success
  • Each new hire will receive a packet of materials from clinical orientation, an orientation checklist and other helpful materials.
  • Each new hire has weekly meetings with their manager to ensure their orientation is smooth and valuable.

Preceptor Development

We assign each newly hired nurse no more than 2 preceptors. Our preceptors are here to ensure that you get the orientation needed to succeed in your new role.

CCU Fellowship

RN would spend a year working on the PCU. During this time they would attend educational opportunities to prepare for transfer. Opportunities for a PCU RN to go to CCU or ED to take care of hold patients would be filled by these colleagues to expose them to the CCU or ED area, colleagues and culture. There would also be scheduled shadowing and observation to the unit that they would ultimately be transferring to at the end of the fellowship.

Fellowship

We have 6 month long program for newly hired nurses. Each month the fellows attend a 4 hour classroom education session that includes a CEU session provided by our HSHS Rescue Flight Nurses. These sessions help develop clinical skills as well as build relationships with your peers. They also do a mission project at their own ministry hospital.

SID RN Residency

A robust 18 week training and orientation program for new graduate nurses with less than one year experience or nurses who have been away from acute care for more than five years. This program also provides debriefing, mentoring and professional development.

Charge Nurse Development Program

Realizing the importance of charge nurses to their departments, colleagues, and patients, a special development program is providing specifically for them. This program includes basic skills but also broadens their knowledge base and ensures them success throughout their day to day activities. Our charge nurses wear yellow tops and jackets so they are easily identified.
