St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital
Rising from the AshesRising from the Ashes St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital proudly continues the tradition of caring started by the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis. This tradition began in 1875 when three Hospital Sisters traveled to Effingham to nurse the ill, the injured, and the indigent. Patients were treated first in homes, then later, in a small two-story brick hospital. Following a devastating fire in 1949, which destroyed the hospital, the citizens of Effingham and the surrounding area helped build a new hospital that opened its doors in 1954.

St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital is dedicated to improving the health of the people of south-central Illinois. Today, St. Anthony’s is a fully licensed and accredited, not-for-profit general acute care healthcare facility with a medical staff of both specialists and consultants. The hospital offers medical, surgical, obstetrical, pediatric, and intensive care services. A skilled nursing unit gives patients a transition between hospital and home.

St. Anthony’s commitment to providing quality healthcare close to home is demonstrated in the outpatient services offered, featuring diagnostic, surgical, MRI, CT, PET/CT, and rehabilitative services. A cancer center and 24-hour a day emergency services also are available to patients. St. Anthony’s Home Care service offers skilled healthcare to patients in their homes.

Through the numerous community programs, health fairs, and screenings held throughout the year, St. Anthony’s reaches out and enhances the lives of individuals throughout the region by helping them make informed decisions about their health needs.

Dedicated to the Church’s healthcare ministry, St. Anthony’s provides healthcare that combines the compassion and human touch of more than a century of caring with the most modern technologies available.
