St. Francis Hospital
Junior VolunteersJunior Volunteers The Hospital Sisters established St. Francis Hospital in 1875 in Litchfield, Illinois, with the mission of meeting the health care needs of those living in the largely rural areas of Montgomery and Macoupin counties. The hospital is located halfway between St. Louis, Missouri and Springfield, Illinois on 30 acres and is the largest hospital between these two metropolitan areas.

St. Francis Hospital has a full range of primary care services, which include state-of-the-art imaging for diagnostic purposes; home care; and physical, cardiac, and pulmonary rehabilitation. The Emergency Department has physicians on duty 24 hours per day. A heliport is also on site. The hospital’s Active Medical Staff is composed largely of physicians trained in family practice, general surgery and general practice. The hospital and medical staff often work closely with St. John’s Hospital in Springfield in coordinating patient care and services.

Patients, their families, the Sisters, physicians, employees, suppliers, and the community all contribute to making St. Francis an innovative and quality health care provider. The hospital and the Sisters share commitments to serving the sick, aged, poor, and terminally ill; promoting health, working within available resources; and continually improving the quality of services.

Serving a population with the broad social, economic, and demographic extremes often found in a rural area, as well as those who need health care services while traveling a major cross-continental highway, continues to present challenges.

The hospital continues to meet the needs of all whom it serves with care, joy, respect and competence, in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi.
