St. Joseph’s Hospital was built in downtown Breese, Illinois, and operated by the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ until 1917. In 1921, ownership was assumed by the Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross. The current hospital located at 9515 Holy Cross Lane was completed in 1969. Sponsorship was transferred in 1987 to the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis where it continues today.

St. Joseph’s Hospital is proud to continue its long history of providing competent personnel, up-to-date facilities and state-of-the-art equipment for both the inpatients and outpatients it serves.

In addition to 24-hour emergency care backed by advanced medical imaging, laboratory, and cardiopulmonary-testing services, St. Joseph’s Hospital provides same-day surgery, physical therapy, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and sports medicine. Newborns are welcomed into the world in the peaceful setting of the Women and Infants Center, while professionals in Senior Renewal work to restore the quality of life for the oldest generation. Health Fairs and community education programs provide screenings and knowledge to the entire community. A variety of specialty physicians see patients in the Specialty Clinics building, while primary care physicians certified in family practice, pediatrics, geriatrics and obstetrics/gynecology have offices in the hospital’s Physician Office buildings.
