St. Mary's Hospital - Decatur, IL In 1878, three Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis arrived in Decatur to establish the community’s first hospital. In the Franciscan spirit of simplicity, unpretentiousness and joy, the Sisters began caring for the poor and sick of Central Illinois. With community support and the ongoing dedication of the Sisters, St. Mary’s has developed into a 371-bed health care facility that combines modern technology with the caring spirit of the original founders. St. Mary’s is situated on an attractive 21-acre campus overlooking Lake Decatur and offers a broad spectrum of comprehensive health services, including emergency, ambulatory, acute and extended care, and a wide range of community education and wellness programs. St. Mary’s is the site of a unique intergenerational day care center and is the community’s only hospital-based provider of behavioral health services. The distinguishing quality of service at St. Mary’s Hospital is represented by the values of respect, care, joy, and competence.
