The Stations of the Cross is a 14-part prayer devoted to what Christians believe was Jesus’ path of suffering leading to the crucifixion on the cross. Depictions of each moment on the journey can be found in a newly added outdoor location on the walking path around the lake at the front of our campus.  This project was completed in April 2024.

An Eagle Scout Project

The Stations of the Cross is an Eagle Scout Project by Will Kinsella of O’Fallon Troop 94.

Will is a parishioner at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church and is a leader of the choir and youth group. Through his deep faith in Christ, he brought this project to St. Elizabeth’s Administration and Spiritual Care department with the goal of providing the public with access to this devotional prayer as a way to reflect on Jesus’s willingness to suffer so that we could share in God’s grace and to remember our own sacrifices as well.

How to walk the outdoor Stations of the Cross

Cross the outer road in front of the hospital and take the walking path towards the lake. At the start of the outdoor Stations of the Cross sign, scan the QR code that will take participants on a guided meditation through the Stations posted on signs around the lake. The meditation is from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and can also be found here

On behalf of Will and St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, thank you for taking time to pray these steps and use these Stations to reflect on the passion of Christ and to increase your resolve to take up your own cross and follow him.

The Stations of the Cross are also on display in the hospital Chapel on the 5th floor.
