Get a jump on those holiday calories and join us for our upcoming GO! 217 workout. Over 20 people participated in our popular wedding dances at our June GO! 217 event, and fitness. Back by popular demand for December, we will revisit popular wedding dances.

This dance workout event will be held Thursday, December 7 at the Shelby County Senior Center in Forest Park, starting at 7 p.m. All ages are encouraged to come. The dance-style workout is designed for everyone. This event is free, and registration is not required. Bring a friend and don’t forget your drink – hydration is important!

“We wanted to use the GO! 217 venue to bring fitness back to the public, but differently, so we turned to dancing. December’s fitness workout will feature the lively dance moves of popular wedding dances which will help you lose weight, one step at a time. At our last outing with wedding dances, participants counted over 2,200 steps on their Fitbits,” Tonya Bowrey, HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital rehabilitation services and wellness manager, said. “Come join us for a fun and dynamic evening.”

Starting in January of 2018, all of our GO! 217 workouts will become Zumba dance workouts. The goal of GO! 217 is to keep our community moving and improve the overall health of everyone who lives in the 217-area code. This program is geared toward the cities where our Hospital Sisters Health System Central Illinois hospitals are located – Springfield, Decatur, Litchfield and Shelbyville. Free workouts will regularly be held on the first Thursday of each month in each of our HSHS central Illinois communities.

GO! 217 partners include HSHS St. John’s Hospital, the Springfield Park District, FitClub, Scheels, HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital, YMCA in Decatur, HSHS St. Francis Hospital, FIT-to-GO in Litchfield, and the Shelby County Senior Center in Shelbyville. Together we are all committed to helping our 217 communities improve their health and wellness through GO! 217.
