When you need to see a urologist, HSHS Medical Group Multispecialty Care - St. Elizabeth's offers patient-first urology care. Here is some information to help you understand the role of a urologist.

What are the most common conditions seen/treated in urology?

The most common conditions seen in urology include benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), recurrent urinary tract infections (UTI), nephrolithiasis, erectile dysfunction, cancers of the urinary tract and prostate cancer.

Do you recommend any preventive screenings/tests to catch urology issues early?

The most recommended screening test is a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening for prostate cancer.

When do you recommend someone see a urologist?

See a urologist if you are having bothersome voiding symptoms, pain that is concerning for a kidney stone or you have been told you have an elevated PSA.

What technologies do you use to help provide the best care for your patients?

We use various imaging studies.

Are certain people more prone to having urology issues?

African Americans can be at increased risk for prostate cancer. There is also a higher risk of prostate cancer if someone in your immediate family has it. Patients who are diabetic or smokers have an increased risk for other urinary issues.
