Physician of the Month

Sahawat Tan, MD

HSHS Medical Group is pleased to award Sahawat Tan, MD, with our November Physician of the Month Award. Dr. Tan is a neurology physician at HSHS Neuroscience Center in Springfield.

The Physician of the Month is chosen from nominations submitted by fellow HSHS Medical Group team members. “Dr. Tan is such a compassionate and caring epileptologist. Many of his patients rave about how impressed they are with his knowledge and compassion,” his nominator said. “As for working alongside Dr. Tan, I couldn't ask for a better provider. He is patient and I love how he shares his knowledge with the clinical staff. Learning never stops in medicine.”

When asked what his favorite part of his job is, Dr. Tan said, “Finding a solution for every patient – even those with complicated cases.” He says, “My guiding principles are discipline and consistency, which align well with our CARE standards of Connect, Appreciate, Respond, Express.”

Outside of work Dr. Tan enjoys running, meditating and researching data science.

Colleague of the Month

Samantha Santel

HSHS Medical Group is pleased to award Samantha Santel with our November Colleague of the Month Award. Samantha is a medical assistant at HSHS Medical Group Primary & Specialty Care in O'Fallon.

The Colleague of the Month is chosen from nominations submitted by fellow HSHS Medical Group team members and patients. “Samantha treats each patient as if they were a family member. Patients always comment on how sweet and caring she is,” her nominator said. “She is a team player and is always willing to help everyone with their tasks.”

When asked what her favorite part of her job is, Samantha said, “Developing the patient/medical assistant relationship. It’s important to get to know your patients so their visit to the office can be enjoyable. Seeing a familiar face when they come in can make them feel comfortable especially in times they aren't at their best.”  She said, “Every day I strive to be a person I would want to work with. I manifest positivity to create a happy work environment.”

When not working, Samantha enjoys shopping, live music, and spending time with her daughters.
