HSHS Medical Group’s newest Health Today episode features Paul Malcharek, MD, Internal Medicine Physician at HSHS Medical Group Family and Internal Medicine Collinsville. Doctor Malcharek has been with HSHS Medical Group for six years. “I chose HSHS Medical Group for a number of reasons, but perhaps the most important is their philosophy of Patient-First Care and treating the patient as a whole person.”
Dr. Malcharek cites the American College of Physician’s (ACP) definition of internal medicine that says internal medicine physicians are specialists who apply scientific knowledge and clinical expertise to the diagnosis, treatment, and compassionate care of adults across the spectrum from health to complex illness. Doctor Malcharek adds, “We are ‘doctors for adults’. We care for patients from about age 14 all the way up through the elderly for everything from high blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol to regular everyday illnesses.”
Dr. Malcharek earned his medical degree from University of Illinois - College of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. He completed an internal medicine residency at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois and an anesthesiology residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Malcharek is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
In this episode of Health Today, Dr. Malcharek explains some of the ways he and his staff deliver Patient-First Care. “We always try to have times available for people who are sick and need to be seen the same day. When the patient needs more than their 15 or 20-minute appointment we try to make sure that we give it to them. We also try to greet every patient by name when they come into the office. I think patients appreciate that.”
