SPRINGFIELD, IL – Hospital Sisters Health System today announced that Andrew J. Bagnall, MHA, FACHE, has been appointed to serve as President and Chief Executive Officer for HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital and HSHS Western Wisconsin Division.  Mr. Bagnall currently serves as President and CEO of HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. He will begin this new role on February 5.

Since joining HSHS in 2010, Mr. Bagnall has helped transform the culture at St. Nicholas by leading initiatives that improved quality, safety, the patient experience and colleague and physician engagement. Furthermore, he has advanced the integration and alignment of Prevea Health and other physician groups.  Mr. Bagnall also oversaw the financial turnaround of the hospital, the growth of patient services, and major capital projects including the renovation of the hospital’s surgical platform and the ICU.

“With Andy’s many accomplishments at St. Nicholas over the last eight years, he was a clear choice for this leadership role for the HSHS Western Wisconsin Division,” HSHS President and CEO Mary Starmann-Harrison said.  “We know Andy will bring proven leadership and results-driven processes to the Chippewa Valley as our team continues to enhance and grow our patient-first care.”

Chairman of the HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital and HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Board of Directors, David Kiefer, echoed Starmann-Harrison’s remarks.

“Andy is a proven leader and his experience, energy and enthusiasm will help advance our mission and take our health care system to the next level,” Kiefer said.  “Our board members are impressed with all that he has accomplished during his career, especially during the past eight years working for HSHS in Sheboygan.  He’s going to be a great addition to our team and we look forward to working with him.”

“It has truly been an honor and privilege to serve our patients and the residents of Sheboygan and be part of such an exceptional team in Eastern Wisconsin.  I’m humbled that HSHS leadership and western Wisconsin board members have asked me to take on this new leadership role for HSHS,” Mr. Bagnall said.  “I look forward to joining our colleagues in western Wisconsin to build on the great work they’re doing to provide high quality patient-centered care that not only improves the lives of individuals but also improves the health and quality of life for the communities of Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls,” he added.

Prior to joining HSHS, Mr. Bagnall served as Chief Executive Officer at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport, Iowa and as Vice President for Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell, Iowa. He earned a Master’s Degree in Health Administration and Bachelor of Arts Degree from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa, and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.  In 2011, he was named as one of Modern Healthcare’s “Up and Comers.”  Mr. Bagnall has been very active in the Sheboygan community, serving on numerous local boards, including the Lakeshore Technical College Foundation, Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce, and Sheboygan County Economic Development Board.

Mr. Bagnall, his wife and three children plan to relocate to the Chippewa Valley.

With Mr. Bagnall’s transition to Western Wisconsin, Therese Pandl, President and CEO, HSHS Eastern Wisconsin, will serve as the interim President and CEO for HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital until a new President and CEO is appointed.
