Varian TrueBeam® linear accelerator

The Prevea Cancer Center at HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital recently acquired a new Varian TrueBeam® linear accelerator, further enabling the center and hospital to offer the very best cancer care to patients in the Chippewa Valley. This upgraded technology replaces the linear accelerator the center previously had.

A linear accelerator is used to treat all organs of the body and delivers high-energy x-rays to the region of a patient’s tumor. These x-ray treatments are designed in such a way that they destroy cancer cells while sparing surrounding normal tissue.

Bringing mobile mammography to rural communities — Early breast cancer detection saves lives.

Even heroes get breast cancer. Kathy Shear was diagnosed in the fall of 2018, which has put her volunteer firefighting on the back burner. As a cancer survivor, Kathy now advocates for early and frequent mammograms. She’s also in support of the HSHS Sacred Heart and St. Joseph’s Foundations’ efforts to buy a mobile mammography vehicle to travel western Wisconsin, making mammograms more accessible in rural areas.
