Vascular surgery is performed on veins and arteries away from the heart. Strokes, heart attacks, leg pain or amputations can happen if left untreated.
Peripheral vascular disease (PVD)
A build-up of plaque in the blood vessels outside the heart that reduces the flow of blood. As a result, some parts of the body do not get the oxygen they need. People with PVD are three to four times more likely to die from stroke or heart attack than people of the same age who do not have PVD. Peripheral arterial bypass and angioplasty may be recommended to improve blood flow to the arteries.
TransCarotid artery revascularization (TCAR)
A hybrid procedure that may be an option for patients with carotid artery disease who are considered high risk for traditional surgery due to their age or other medical conditions.
Angioplasty and stenting
A minimally-invasive procedure where the surgeon makes an incision in the groin, inserts a catheter and guides it through the blood vessels to the carotid artery, where a tiny balloon is inserted. The balloon is inflated and deflated to flatten the plaque against the walls of the artery. Then a small metal-mesh tube (stent) is placed in the artery to hold it open.
Carotid artery surgery/stenting
Carotid artery disease is the build-up of plaque on the inside of the carotid arteries. Over time, the build-up narrows the artery, decreasing blood flow to the brain, which can lead to a stroke. Treatment options for carotid artery disease vary based on patients' symptoms and overall health. Some more severe cases may require surgery

Traditional vascular surgeries
- Aortic aneurysm repair
- Aortocaval fistula repair
- Aortoenteric fistula repair
- Arteriovenous fistula surgery
- Arteriovenous malformation surgery
- Bypass surgery
Varicose veins and spider veins
These are twisted and enlarged veins just below the surface of the skin. Treatment for varicose veins typically starts with lifestyle changes, but surgical options may be recommended if those changes do not lead to improvements. Our vascular surgeons offer a variety of treatment methods, from minimally invasive procedures to traditional surgical techniques.
