Our newest Health Today episode features Iyoob Ilyas, MD, a colorectal and general surgeon at HSHS Medical Group Colorectal & General Surgery in Effingham, IL. According to Dr. Ilyas, “Our aim is to provide patients with access to world-class healthcare that is value-based and evidence-based. We see our patients as fellow human beings, like our family members, and treat them with dignity and respect.”
Dr. Ilyas earned his medical degree from Kasturba Medical College in Mangalore, India. Dr. Ilyas completed general surgery residencies at University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ, Cleveland Clinic Florida in Weston, FL, Brooklyn Hospital Center in Brooklyn, NY, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust in Oxford, UK and Kilpauk Medical College in Chennai, India. He completed his colorectal surgery fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI.
Dr. Ilyas explains that thanks to the state-of-the-art technology, surgeries are becoming more patient friendly and are less painful with faster recovery and return to normal life. “We have the latest robotic technology for example—available in only a few surgery centers in the state. I still perform the same operation. However with this technology we are able to achieve better results because the movements are more precise, the visualization and reach are better.”
