(EFFINGHAM, IL) – The HSHS St. Anthony’s Foundation 9th Annual Golf Benefit held July 21 at the Effingham Country Club was a big success.  The event, which evolved through a partnership with Jonathan Kabbes and “Golf for a Cure” held in 2009 and 2010, netted $32,500 to benefit the hospital’s Cardiac Catheterization Lab and additional advanced cardiac services in partnership with the Prairie Heart Institute at St. Anthony’s.

Items to be purchased from funds raised through the Golf Benefit include a Dicom Printer to show patients images of their arteries both before and after the procedure, a SCIFIT PRO2 Total Body Exerciser for post-cardiac or procedure rehabilitation, and, as funds permit, a SonoSite SII Ultrasound System.

“Holes for Heart Care”, held at the Effingham Country Club, included 134 golfers, 126 sponsors/donors, and 35 volunteers.  The event included many exciting activities and outstanding golf.  Prior to a Noon Tee-Off start, Theresa Rutherford, HSHS St. Anthony’s President and CEO, welcomed the golfers, thanked the sponsors, and concluded her remarks with a prayer.  The golf event also included a variety of activities on the course, such as “EKG Closest to the Line”, longest putt, longest drive, closest to the pin, and a putting contest.  Other highlights include a “bags toss” game for prizes hosted by Air Evac Lifeteam, the landing/departing of the Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter, and new this year, the $1 Million Hole-in-One Challenge.  Six golfers received the opportunity to shoot a 150-yard shot on Hole 18 for a chance to win $1 Million.  Following 18 holes of golf, the golfers enjoyed a reception, the $1 Million Hole-in-One Challenge, presentation of awards, and the drawing of the raffle ticket items in the clubhouse at the Effingham Country Club.

An idea which originally started as service project developed by Jonathan Kabbes as a way to ‘give back’ to Effingham has now grown into a full scale community event.”
