(EFFINGHAM, IL) – Do you want to learn about the “heart of a woman” while taking steps to improve your heart health? Then join HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital at their next monthly “JustWalk™” Walk With a Doc walking program Saturday, Feb. 15 at 9 a.m. at the Richard E. Workman Sports and Wellness Complex at 1301 North Maple Street, Effingham. To participate in this Walk With a Doc event, you do not have to be a member of the Workman Sports Complex. Walkers should meet in St. Anthony’s Physical Rehab and Wellness area, which is immediately to the left as you enter the front entrance of the complex.

At the start of the walk, there will be a brief talk about “the heart of a woman” focused on woman’s heart health.  February is American Heart Month, and according to the American Heart Association, heart disease and stroke cause one in three deaths among women each year – more than all cancers combined. Fortunately, we can change that because 80% of cardiac and stroke events may be prevented with education and action.

Following the brief talk, walkers will enjoy a refreshing and rejuvenating walk on the walking track with St. Anthony’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ryan Jennings, and other health care professionals who will provide support to the walkers and answer questions during the walk.

Get your family moving and join the health care providers of HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital for a morning walk focused on fun, health and meeting new friends.  This is a free program and pre-registration is not required.

Walks are held monthly, on the third Saturday of each month.  During the winter months (November through March) and when there is inclement weather, the walks will be held at the Workman Sports and Wellness Complex.  In the spring, summer and fall seasons (April through October), the walks will be held at outside locations.

For cases of inclement weather, please check the hospital’s Facebook page at facebook.com/StAnthonysMemorialHospital or listen to local radio stations for notices about cancellation or changes in location.

“Walk With a Doc” was created by Dr. David Sabgir, a cardiologist who practices at Mount Carmel Health Systems in Columbus, OH and he has been walking every weekend since 2005. The expansion and support of the program are thanks to Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
