Dr. John Opilka


Dr. Opilka is board certified in family medicine and has been practicing in Altamont for nearly 20 years. Dr. Opilka graduated from Des Moines University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences as a Doctor of Osteopathy in 1996 and completed his Family Practice residency at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL in 1999.   

He brings his medical expertise to HSHS St. Anthony’s Weight Management as the HMR Program medical director, as well as being an HMR success story himself losing nearly 50 pounds on the HMR Health Solutions at Home program in 2017.   
In his spare time Dr. Opilka enjoys cycling and chasing his kids in their activities.

Brooke Welcher-Miner, MS, RDN, LDN


Brooke is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and a Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) in the State of Illinois.  She graduated from Saint Louis University with a Master’s of Science in Nutrition, Medical Nutrition Therapy in 2017.  She has been with HSHS St. Anthony’s Weight Management since its inception and currently serves as the HMR Program Coordinator and Health Educator.

In her spare time you can find Brooke spending most of her time outdoors.  From summer days on Lake Shelbyville to playing a pick-up game of volleyball, tending to her garden, or running 5Ks.  She also enjoys traveling, reading a good book, cooking/baking, and volunteering with the Special Olympics of Illinois.

Debra serves as the HMR Program Nurse for HSHS St. Anthony’s Weight Management. Deb spends her spare time chasing around her son Chase.
