Green Bay – HSHS St. Vincent Hospital Cancer Centers is pleased to announce the board certification of registered dietitian, Stephanie Nelson, as a specialist in oncology nutrition.
Stephanie Nelson, MS, RD, CD, CSO, has provided dietetic services to patients at HSHS St. Vincent Hospital Cancer Centers since 2015. She provides dietary guidance to support a patient’s cancer treatment, as well as combat the symptoms of cancer and side effects of treatment. Recently, she completed 2,000 hours of practice experience and passed a rigorous national exam by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) to become one of just 20 board-certified oncology dietitians within the state of Wisconsin.
“This specialization helps me stay focused within the oncology field to provide information based on science and not trends,” said Stephanie. “In a time when misinformation can be easily found online, nutrition can be overwhelming and confusing. My practice is focused on understanding cancer treatments such as chemotherapy drugs and how they affect essential nutrients.”
Oncology dietitian services are available to patients at all HSHS St. Vincent Hospital Cancer Center locations, which include HSHS St. Vincent and St. Mary’s Hospitals in Green Bay, HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital in Oconto Falls and Door County Cancer Center in Sturgeon Bay.
“A cancer diagnosis can completely alter the lives of our patients emotionally, mentally and financially,” said Stephanie. “Nutrition doesn’t need to be an added stressor during this time. I am here to provide education and be a source of encouragement.”
The oncology dietitian program at HSHS St. Vincent Hospital Cancer Centers is part of the Anew® Cancer Survivorship program. With a mission to revitalize energy, mobility and spirit, The Anew® team assists cancer patients with any type of need that may come up before, during or after cancer treatment. Other services include rehabilitation therapies, massage, healing arts, emotional and spiritual support, and financial counseling.
