Why should I get the COVID-19 vaccine?

COVID-19 risks outweigh vaccine side effects

You’ve seen or have heard about the very worst effects of COVID-19 at our hospitals – as we have had many patients suffer greatly and even pass away. At HSHS we have given thousands of shots already and have had no reports of any unexpected side effects.

Receiving the COVID-19 vaccine is the best way to combat the disease. There is a light at the end of the tunnel and we need all the help we can get in fighting COVID-19. That is why we continue to ask you to wear a mask and social distance as well as get your COVID-19 vaccine when it becomes available to you.

Who is currently eligible during Phases 1A and 1B?

As of February 4, those eligible to receive the vaccine, as declared by the St. Clair County Health Department, are:

  • Phase 1A: health care personnel and residents of long-term care facilities
  • Phase 1B: persons aged ≥65 years who reside in St. Clair County.

If you have any questions regarding your eligibility, please speak with your health care provider or visit your local health department’s website for specific information for your area.

Do I need an appointment to get vaccinated?

Yes. COVID-19 vaccines at HSHS facilities are available by appointment only. We are not accepting walk-ins.

As vaccines become available, we will be scheduling appointments through MyChart.

PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE HOSPITAL FOR APPOINTMENTS.

What if all the appointments are taken?

We know many of you are eager to get vaccinated, and right now the demand for vaccine is greater than the supply. Please continue to monitor our website and your MyChart account for regular updates. We are prepared to deliver vaccines as quickly as we receive them, and we will continue to add vaccine appointments based on the size and frequency of shipments from the state.
