(Belleville, IL) - Gary A. Hagens, DMD, has been named Chief Medical Officer at HSHS St. Elizabeth's Hospital as announced recently by Peg Sebastian, the hospital's President and CEO.  He will assume the roll effective immediately.

Dr. Hagens recently served as Regional Chief Medical Officer and Regional Chief Operating Officer for the Mercy Health-Springfield Region at both Springfield Regional Medical Center and Mercy Memorial Hospital. Both are operated by Community Mercy Health Partners (CMPH). Prior to joining CMPH Dr. Hagens was employed at Advocate BroMenn Healthcare, Normal, Ill., where he served as the Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Medical Management.

“Dr. Hagens brings a wealth of experience to the role of Chief Medical Officer with experience in improving quality outcomes, supporting growth strategy and ongoing physician engagement. I look forward to having him join our team as we continue on our journey of excellence,” notes Sebastian.

Dr. Hagens completed his Doctor of Dental Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine and completed his clinical training in Maxillofacial Surgery at Boston University. He also has an MBA from Plymouth State University in New Hampshire.

Hospital leadership also thanks Dr. Dolph Haege for his services as Interim Chief Medical Officer during the recruitment search.
