O’Fallon, IL – Last summer, HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital invited the public to submit photographs to contribute to the aesthetic of the new hospital and attached Health Center in O’Fallon, Illinois. Over 3000 submissions were received.

Now, as the November 4th opening day draws closer, all the photographs have been reproduced as 30”x20” metal prints and hung throughout the buildings.

“The amount and quality of the submissions from so many communities in the region was tremendous,” said Kelly Barbeau, Marketing/Communications Manager at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. “It was a very long process to whittle it down to the final chosen pieces but we are excited to have the beautiful, healing artwork adorn the walls of the new facility.”

A total of 318 images were chosen with the help of Kahler Slater Architects, who were lead on the entire design of the hospital. The prints can be found in public areas such as family lounges and hallways, in both the hospital and the Health Center. Additionally, many of the submissions were used in non-public areas to be shared and enjoyed by our colleagues, physicians, volunteers and other vendors who serve patients day in and day out.  A $25 premium fee was paid to the individual for each photo used.

The hospital broke ground on construction in June of 2015 after receiving unanimous approval from the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board (HFSRB) in April of the same year.

The $300 million facility is centrally located for the southwestern Illinois region that it serves and closer to Scott Air Force Base and the community hospitals that refer patients to St. Elizabeth’s, such as HSHS affiliate hospitals St. Joseph’s in Highland and St. Joseph’s in Breese, as well as other surrounding community hospitals. The new building sits on 120 acres of land off Interstate 64 and North Green Mount Road.

St. Elizabeth’s Hospital will offer 144 private patient rooms, an emergency department, state-of-the-art operating rooms, an advanced intensive care unit, and inpatient rehabilitation. Additional inpatient and outpatient services at the new facility, include cancer care, modern birthing suites, telehealth consultations featuring accredited stroke care, and award-winning heart care, and much more.

The public is welcome to tour the new hospital on October 7 and 8 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
