Accreditation for Cardiovascular Excellence

 

The Prairie Heart Institute at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois, was reaccredited by Accreditation for Cardiovascular Excellence (ACE) in October.  In 2015, the Prairie Heart Institute was the first cardiac catheterization laboratory in Illinois to achieve ACE accreditation and only two other Illinois hospitals have since achieved this accreditation.

Minimally Invasive Heart Surgeries

 

Prairie Heart Institute and HSHS St. John's Hospital celebrated a milestone achievement in minimally invasive heart surgeries, an alternative to traditional open heart surgery. Dr. Raja Golpadas has performed 100 minimally invasive cardiac surgeries and St. John's is the only hospital in Illinois performing true minimally invasive cardiac surgery. 

Illinois Health and Hospital Association Award

 

HSHS St. John’s Hospital was recognized for its commitment to patient safety and quality with a quality excellence achievement award in the outstanding achievement category from the Illinois Health and Hospital Association’s (IHA) Institute for Innovations in Care and Quality. The award was presented at IHA’s leadership summit on Wednesday, Sept. 13, and honored St. John’s quality improvement project to reduce surgical scope repair costs.  St. John’s project was one of 59 applications IHA received for the quality excellence achievement awards.


Platinum Performance Achievement Award

 

Prairie Heart Institute at HSHS St. John's Hospital earned the Platinum Performance Achievement Award from the American College of Cardiology's NCDR Action Registry for implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients.

Readers’ Choice Award

 

St. John’s received Springfield State Journal-Register’s Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Pediatric Hospital and Best Birthing Center.


Resuscitation Quality Improvement

 

The American Heart Association recognized HSHS St. John’s Hospital as the first hospital in Central Illinois to implement Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) program in October.  This program will help colleagues maintain skill competency and achieve better patient outcomes through more regular CPR training. Colleagues will now participate in quarterly activities rather than attending a longer CPR class once every two years.

Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award

 

HSHS St. John’s Hospital received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®- Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment and success ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.
