Slumberland and Parent Help Line at HSHS St. John’s Children’s Hospital are looking for families in need of bed donations. On Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, Slumberland is donating 29 twin bed mattresses, box springs and bed frames to children ages 2-13 in need.  The Parent Help Line is donating a new set of sheets for each bed, a $25 Visa gift card and coordinating the selection of families.
Qualified families should be in need, but living in a stable home (not threatened by eviction). These beds are for children ages 2-13 who do not have a bed of any kind. One bed awarded per household while supplies last. Recipients must be able to pick up the bed at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15 at Slumberland, 2450 Chuckwagon Drive, Springfield. Chick-Fil-A is donating 60 chicken and biscuit sandwiches and coffee for the event. Santa will also be there to greet the families.
Agencies who have a client who could benefit from this generous program can submit requests for more than one family. To apply, contact and be sure to include the age of the child in need, the reason they do not currently have a bed, names of the families in need and their phone numbers. Once the email is received, parents can expect a call from the Parent Help Line. All calls will be answered in the order in which the emails are received.
Slumberland has worked with the Parent Help Line at St. John’s Children’s Hospital the past six Christmas seasons on its holiday bed giveaway program. The purpose of Parent Help Line is to strengthen families through support, information and referral. Families can call this free phone support line at 217-544-5808 or toll free 1-888-727-5889. Trained volunteer parents run the phone line 365 days a year from 10 a.m.-10 p.m.
Since 1993, Slumberland has donated more than 30,000 mattresses and box springs to disadvantaged families through local agencies. A good night’s sleep prepares families to perform their daily tasks. The program goal is to get kids sleeping in beds instead of the floor. Additionally, Slumberland donates more than 10 percent of its profits to organizations that assist families and youth in the community.
About Slumberland’s 40 Winks Foundation
Slumberland’s 40 Winks Foundation helps children get a healthy night’s sleep.  It has local charity partners in the cities where their stores are located.  The local charity oversees the donation process and identifies all recipients. For too many children and families across America, getting a good night’s sleep is only something they dream about. That is why Slumberland Furniture created the 40 Winks Foundation. With its name embedded in an old English expression for just the right amount of sleep, the 40 Winks Foundation seeks to provide mattresses and beds to children and families lacking these resources to help them attain one of the foundational blocks of life – a full and healthy night’s sleep. Slumberland Furniture covers the administrative costs for the 40 Winks Foundation.  A portion of the mattress sales help fund this program.  In addition, the community can purchase merchandise and donate funds to the mission of the 40 Winks Foundation.  Every donated dollar goes directly to providing beds for needy families.
