HSHS St. Joseph’s Breese Foundation recently received a $3,140 donation from Mater Dei and Central High Schools volleyball teams in honor of breast cancer awareness. The funds will directly benefit the Cancer Care Closet at the hospital to purchase chemo survival kits for patients undergoing chemotherapy.

“We are very appreciative that these local student athletes not only recognize the challenges cancer can have on people, but chose to give back to our community through their financial support of our Cancer Care Closet with the funds they raised this year,” said St. Joseph’s Hospital President and CEO Chris Klay. “This act of kindness once again demonstrates how our community comes together in support of those in need.”

Both teams raised the funds by pre-selling t-shirts for their annual Pink Out volleyball game which was held on September 18. The t-shirt sales at both schools were organized by Crystal Gebke (Central) and Jeannine Mohesky (Mater Dei).

Megan Korte, PTA, Cancer Care Closet coordinator, said, “Donations like these make a real difference to help us further provide wigs, hats and the many other amenities to patients on their breast cancer treatment journey.”
