The next meeting of the Breese Diabetes Support Group (DSG) will take place Monday, July 10, at 6:00 p.m. in the Heritage Room at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital. This session will provide the opportunity to bid farewell to long-time Diabetes Educator Barb Voss, who will retire the end of July after more than 35 years of patient care.
The evening’s program “Exploring the Restaurant Menu” will be presented by Kayla Barnes, RD, LD. Barnes, the hospital’s outpatient dietitian, will discuss realistic strategies and menu substitutions for those with diabetes, so they can enjoy eating out and still manage blood sugar and nutritional needs.
“You shouldn’t have to pass on an opportunity to join family or friends for a meal just because you have diabetes,” said Barnes. “Join us to learn the buzz words to look for in menus and the questions to ask wait staff so that you can make wise food choices, no matter what type of restaurant you visit.”
