The Cancer Care Closet at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Breese is available for all those dealing with cancer. While the Cancer Care Closet is frequently thought of as a resource for women, the program is open to all, and now has “chemo kits” with specific items for men.

The cancer kits include specialized comfort items. The items in these kits can help ease some of the side effects many experience during chemotherapy, or help people pass the time during their treatments.

The men’s cancer kits provide:

  • Blanket

  • Peppermint tea
  • Mouthwash
  • Queezy drops
  • Bug spray in summer
  • Lotion
  • Chapstick
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Cross
  • Fan
  • Wade Sales and Service water

  • Lint roller

Cancer kits are also available for women:

In addition to the cancer kits, the St. Joseph’s Cancer Care Closet offers free wigs, hats, scarves, other head coverings through their wig loan program to individuals suffering from hair loss due to cancer treatments.  The wig program has:

  • Several dozen donated wigs cleaned by Kaskaskia College Cosmetology students.
  • Hundreds of hats and scarves made and donated by Clinton County Homemakers Extension members and other generous souls.
