(BREESE, IL) – HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Breese welcomes the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois’ KidneyMobile® to the Breese Knights of Columbus Hall on Tuesday, July 10. A series of free kidney and diabetes screenings will be offered starting at 10 a.m. Screenings will continue until everyone is seen or until 2 p.m. – whichever comes first. Attendance is limited, so an appointment is strongly encouraged. Call the hospital at (618) 526-8585 to schedule. Those walking in without an appointment will receive the next available slot.
The free screenings, limited to those 18 years of age and over, will include a blood draw to check for creatinine and kidney function, blood pressure, blood glucose, body mass Index, waist circumference and urinalysis. Fasting is not required.
Participants will have the opportunity to discuss the results with a health care professional and will receive a printed copy by mail for his or her physician. A Spanish interpreter will be available. Refreshments will be provided.
Diabetes and hypertension are known precursors of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), which can result in the permanent loss of kidney function. Many people are unaware they have diabetes and/or hypertension and face the risk of kidney disease if those conditions are not identified and managed through a treatment plan and lifestyle changes.
For a KidneyMobile® screening appointment, contact the hospital Specialty Clinic at 526-8585. For more information on CKD or the NKFI, call (312) 321-1500 or visit www.nkfi.org.
