When it comes to baseball, do you bleed red? Or do you bleed blue? To let the world know for sure, “Step up to the Plate” and donate blood at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Breese on Friday, May 5, 2017. Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center will host the drive from 12 noon until 4:30 p.m. in the hospital’s Heritage Room. All presenting donors will receive a voucher for their choice of a free “Step up to the plate” t-shirt in St. Louis red or Chicago blue, as well as a pair of Gateway Grizzlies tickets.

At the hospital’s March drive, individuals received vouchers for “Make Your Own Luck” St. Patrick’s Day t-shirts. 37 donors presented, and Mississippi Valley was able to collect 34 units – enough blood products to help as many as 136 patients at health care centers across the region. All donors who brought a friend with them to donate were put into a drawing for a $25 gift certificate to Popeye’s Chop House. The lucky winner was Lynn Broeckling of Albers.

Healthy individuals may donate blood every 8 weeks. To make it easy for donors wanting to make the biggest impact by giving whenever eligible, the Breese hospital will host drives approximately every 8 weeks in 2017. Future blood drives are planned for July 5, September 1 and November 13. To meet eligibility requirements, your most recent donation should not have been any later than March 10, 2017. Those who gave at the hospital’s May drive are eligible.

Additional giving requirements include weighing at least 110 pounds, and being 17 years of age or older, (or 16 with a signed parental permission form available at www.bloodcenter.org). Please bring a photo ID, eat before arriving, and plan to spend approximately one hour. Appointments are requested, but walk-ins are always welcome. For an appointment, call 1-800-591-8049 or visit www.bloodcenterimpact.org – sponsor code 10229.

While you are on the website, check out IMPACT. Earn points every time you donate with IMPACT, Mississippi Valley’s donor loyalty program. You receive points for each donation, and earn bonus points when you make your appointment online. Redeem points in an online store for lots of great Blood Center merchandise.

For best access, park in the main lot in front of the hospital off Holy Cross Lane, and use the “Main Lobby” entrance. For additional information, contact Mississippi Valley at 1-800-591-8049 or St. Joseph’s Breese at 526-5672.
