HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital welcomes “Put Your Best Foot Forward” Diabetes Education Program
September 5, 2017
“Put Your Best Foot Forward” will be the topic for the Monday, September 11 meeting of the HSHS St. Joseph’s Breese Diabetes Support Group at 6 p.m. in the hospital’s Heritage Room.
Information will be presented by John Elliott, RN, the hospital’s new Diabetes Educator. Topics will include diabetes and foot health and steps to take to keep your feet healthy. He will also be doing foot checks if any participants are interested.
All are welcome but registration is encouraged to ensure sufficient hand-outs and seating. Those who register in advance will be notified if the meeting is rescheduled due to weather or other emergency.
As diabetes can damage nerves and impede blood flow to the feet, anyone with high blood sugar is more susceptible to foot problems. Risk factors for Type 2 diabetes include being over 45 years old, unhealthy weight, eating habits and inactivity. Symptoms include fatigue, increased hunger or thirst, frequent urination, unexplained weight loss, irritability and vision changes. Anyone with one or more symptoms should contact their health professional.
For more information, to register for the meeting, contact 526-5743 or john.elliott@hshs.org.
