Beautiful weather greeted the dozen-plus walkers Saturday, Sept. 9, at the annual Walk-a-thon sponsored by the Auxiliary at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese to benefit the organization’s “Lights for Scholarship” fund. Volunteers and walkers at the event, held on the HealthPlex walking track, included (from left) Director of Volunteers Judy Schrage, new Auxiliary member Beth Bedard, Bonnie Kohrmann, Don Halbe, Don and Jackie Reeves, Randall and Donna Kruep, Elizabeth Thole, David and Cathie Schroeder, Francie Voss, Teresa Haake, Volunteer Services Secretary Vonnie Ratermann, Auxiliary Treasurer Barb Peek and Auxiliary Bake Sale co-chair Ann Olliges. California residents Randall and Donna Kruep, along with other family members, walked in memory of Randall and Donna’s son Andrew Kruep and grandmother Elizabeth Schroeder. Donations made before, during and after the morning event help provide grants-in-aid for health care career students. This year, at the Auxiliary’s June annual meeting, $15,000 in grants were presented - $1,000 each to 15 students representing the fields of dentistry, nursing, occupational therapy, optometry, physical therapy, physician, physician assistant, radiologic technology and speech therapy. Teresa Haake (center) came out to the HSHS St. Joseph-Breese HealthPlex track Saturday morning, Sept. 9, to walk in the hospital Auxiliary’s walk-a-thon benefitting the organization’s “Lights for Scholarship” fund. As the winner of the event’s attendance prize, she went home with a trunk organizer and insulated cooler courtesy of Reeves Credit Repair in Breese. The morning began with warm-up exercises led by a member of the hospital’s Physical Therapy staff and concluded with the dozen-plus walkers taking one or more laps around the track.
