(Breese, IL) – HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Breese is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Bassim Assioun, nephrologist, to their visiting specialist team. Dr. Assioun will now see patients frequently at St. Joseph’s Hospital in addition to his primary location at HSHS Medical Group Nephrology – Shiloh.

Nephrology is a specialty of medicine that studies kidney function, kidney problems, the treatment of kidney problems and renal replacement therapy through dialysis and kidney transplant.

“We are privileged that Dr. Assioun has decided to practice nephrology as a member of HSHS Medical Group in our Breese community,” noted Paulette Evans, RN, MSN, President and CEO for St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese. “Dr. Assioun joins our expanding list of specialty physicians which allows high-quality specialty care, close to home for our community. Please join me in welcoming him to Breese.” 

Common causes for physician referral include: worsening kidney function, proteinuria, hematuria, kidney manifestations with diabetes, resistant hypertension, kidney stones and dialysis care.

Dr. Assioun earned his medical degree from the University of Aleppo, Aleppo, Syria. He additionally completed an Internal Medicine Residency and Nephrology Fellowship at St. Louis University in St. Louis, MO.
Dr. Assioun has been a member of the HSHS Medical Group since July 2015.
