The Illinois Hospital Research and Educational Foundation (IHREF)/Constituency of Volunteers (CoV) Scholarship Fund, with Volunteer Services at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese, is again offering $1,000 scholarships to students who have been accepted into a health care career curriculum.

Scholarships are given on an academic year based on scholastic achievement, financial need and availability of funds.

The award will be applied toward tuition, fees or books and sent to the authorities as designated by the recipient. If the recipient drops out of school while the award is in effect, funds must be returned commensurate with the school year remaining.

Selection will be made in June and only recipients notified. Those applying are encouraged to read the application carefully and provide all requested information.

To be eligible, the applicant must be an Illinois resident and accepted into or currently enrolled in a hospital-related health care career curriculum. Applicants enrolled in an associate degree or hospital-based program will be considered his or her first year; students having less than one academic year remaining until graduation are not eligible.

The school attending need not be an Illinois institution but must be accredited or recognized as an approved program by the appropriate agencies.

To be competitive, a grade point average of 3.5 out of 4.0 or 4.5 out of 5.0 is necessary.

Applications are available through Volunteer Services at HSHS St. Joseph’s in Breese. For more information, contact 526-5351, 9515 Holy Cross Lane, Breese, IL 62230 or
