(Breese, IL) – HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Breese received a $50,000 charitable gift designated for medical transportation services from the Healthcare Foundation. The $50,000 gift was presented at the 30th Annual Healthcare Foundation Ball on February 3rd.

Founded on the increasing need for improved medical transportation services, HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital has made a commitment to use the $50,000 to purchase a medical transportation van.  Community members will soon have access to free medical transportation via the “Friends Van Program.”  This free program will provide transportation for community members to and from medical, dental and other personal appointments. This program will be available for those living in the HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Breese service area.

“We are thankful that the Healthcare Foundation thought of St. Joseph’s Hospital when identifying their gift recipient. Caring for our community is part of our mission, and I believe this program will provide a great solution for those who are in need of transportation,” said Chris Klay, President and CEO of HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Breese. Our hope is that we can relieve the burden of transportation to those who find it difficult getting to and from their health care obligations.”

Through donations and grants, the HSHS St. Joseph’s Foundation will sustain the program costs moving forward, including staffing, maintenance, gas, etc.

Currently, the van has been ordered, and St. Joseph’s is preparing further details for the program. More information will be announced in the near future.
