HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Breese will host a Stroke Support Group meeting on Tuesday, February 21, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the HealthPlex Conference Room. The HealthPlex is located just north of the hospital at 14160 Jamestown Road, Breese.

The goal of the Stroke Support Group is to foster a better understanding of stroke recovery, rehabilitation, and prevention of recurrent strokes, while providing an opportunity for stroke survivors to meet others with similar challenges. In addition, the meetings offer caregivers and family members of stroke patients an open atmosphere for sharing and for supporting each other. There is no charge to attend.

HSHS St. Joseph’s Highland and HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Belleville also offer groups, and attendees may mix and match locations as necessary. The February 21 meeting in Breese will be the final session to discuss General Medical Information. The next session will discuss the topic of Occupational and Speech Therapy/Exercises. Sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, March 21, at the Highland hospital’s St. Francis Conference Room; Wednesday, April 5, at St. Elizabeth’s Millenium Room in Belleville; and Tuesday, April 18 at the HealthPlex in Breese. All sessions are from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Breese session topics for the remainder of the year include: “Medication Related to Stroke”  ̶  June 20, “Community Resources”  ̶  August 15, “Staying Active”  ̶   October 17, and “Meet the Dietitian”  ̶  December 19.
