(Highland, IL) – Kayla Barnes, Registered, Licensed Dietitian, will be the new instructor for the Winter Nutrition Series at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland.
 
Barnes graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2012 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Human Nutrition and Dietetics. She then completed a 10-month dietetic internship at the two Veterans Affairs Hospitals, Jefferson Barracks and John Cochran, in St. Louis, Missouri.
 
She began her career at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Breese as the outpatient dietitian in June of 2013. In addition to counseling individuals through medical nutrition therapy, Barnes presents community benefit education throughout the surrounding communities. 
 
For the Winter Nutrition Series at St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland, Barnes will cover the following topics:

  • -   The Facts on Fat and Sodium

  • -   Cut Added Sugars, Sip Smarter

  • -   Learn about Super Foods

  • -   Heart-Healthy Recipes Cooking Demo
     

This series of four classes will run every Tuesday from January 30 to February 20 in the Sullivan Room at St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland from 6 to 7 p.m.
