Non-invasive Procedure to Detect Urinary Tract Abnormalities Now Offered at Highland Hospital
June 25, 2019
(HIGHLAND, IL) – HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland is now offering cystoscopy procedures. The hospital purchased new equipment to allow for this non-invasive procedure to be offered to patients in our local area.
Cystoscopy is a urological procedure that allows a urologist to exam the lining of the bladder and urethra. This type of outpatient procedure is a non-invasive way to detect for abnormalities or cancers in the urinary tract.
“Being able to perform cystoscopy procedures allows our local patients to stay close to home for this diagnostic procedure,” said Randall Dooley, HSHS Medical Group board-certified urologist. “This procedure lasts only a couple of minutes, doesn’t require any incisions and has a fast recovery period with minimal side effects.”
Signs and symptoms that may benefit from having a cystoscopy procedure for diagnosis include blood in the urine, incontinence, overactive bladder, painful urination and frequent urination. If you are experiencing these issues, it is recommended you see your doctor to discuss further.
