HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur Family YMCA Offer Free Fitness Classes with GO! 217 Program

As 2017 kicks off, HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital and the Decatur Family YMCA are offering free fitness classes each month. The first workout class/sign-up event will be held Thursday, January 5 in the Assisi Room at St. Mary’s Hospital starting at 6 p.m. Additional classes will be held at the Decatur Family YMCA on January 9 at 8:15 a.m. for toning on-the-go and 6 p.m. for Zumba. Registration is not required; you do not need to be a member of the YMCA to participate in the workouts held at their facility.
 
GO! 217’s goal is to keep community members moving and to improve the overall health of everyone who lives in the 217 area code. The program is geared toward the cities where Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) central Illinois hospitals are located—Springfield/HSHS St. John’s Hospital, Decatur/HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital and Litchfield/HSHS St. Francis Hospital. The hospitals are partnering with the Springfield Park District, FitClub, SCHEELS, Decatur Family YMCA and FIT-to-GO to provide community workouts each month in the participating cities.
 
Obesity is an identified health need in many areas of central Illinois that can result in chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer. January is Healthy Weight Awareness Month, and we encourage everyone to check the scale to see if they may need to improve. The GO! 217 program will help educate people about the preventive steps they can take to improve their overall health.
