As part of National Healthcare Decisions Day, HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital’s spiritual care team will be available in the main lobby of the hospital Tuesday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to assist with questions and completion of advance directive paperwork. These include power of attorney for health care, living will and DNR (do not resuscitate).

National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD) exists to inspire, educate and empower the public and providers about the importance of advance care planning. NHDD is an initiative to encourage patients to express their wishes regarding health care and for providers and facilities to respect those wishes, whatever they may be. The theme for 2017 is "It Always Seems Too Early, Until It’s Too Late."

The goal of St. Mary’s spiritual care team is to educate the public, facilitate health care decision making and make the topic of advance directives more accessible.
