HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Re-Accredited as Baby-Friendly Hospital
August 23, 2019
The Women and Infants Center at HSHS St. Mary's Hospital was recently re-accredited as the area’s only Baby-Friendly® hospital. The global Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative selects hospitals that provide an exceptional level of care that promotes mother and baby bonding.
Achieving Baby-Friendly status is an extensive process. Policies and procedures are optimized so that mothers and babies have the best start possible. All levels of staff must undergo training and skill building to ensure quality in all aspects of maternal care.
“We are proud to be recognized as the area’s only Baby-Friendly accredited hospital,” said Stephanie Lake, director of the Women and Infants Center. “This re-accreditation continues to show that St. Mary’s provides Decatur with the highest quality and most comprehensive care for newborns in the Decatur area.”
