Green Bay – Holiday shopping will take center stage on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but the act of giving is set to shine on Tuesday, Nov. 28, with #GivingTuesday - an international movement to celebrate generosity and to give back to our communities. It was started in 2012 by New York’s 92nd Street YMCA in partnership with the United Nations as an effort to create a national day of giving during the holiday season.
Anyone is welcome to participate in #GivingTuesday by contributing money or time to a local charity, or committing a simple act of kindness. HSHS St. Vincent Hospital and HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center in Green Bay are hoping the public will participate by making a donation to the not-for-profit hospitals, which care for all people regardless of their ability to pay. Charitable donations to both hospitals make up for the shortfalls of Medicaid and Medicare payments and provide care for many patients who have no insurance or are underinsured.
“Charitable donations have a significant impact on our ability to go above and beyond caring for you, your family and friends,” said Bobbi Giles, Foundation Director at HSHS St. Vincent Hospital and HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center. “Every dollar donated directly benefits the patients and families we serve by giving us the ability to acquire life-saving technology and provide a high level of health care excellence for those in need of care today and for future generations.”
For example, a donation of ...
$20 could provide a cafeteria meal for a patient and their children while in our care.
$35 could provide clothing to an infant in the NICU and of a low-income family.
$50 could provide life-saving medication to a patient who has to choose between food and medicine.
$75 could provide lodging to a low-income family that traveled from hours away to visit a patient in our care.
$500 could provide a life-saving cancer screening for a low-income person unable to pay.
There is no donation too big or too small. All gifts are valued for the difference they make in the life of another.
