Green Bay – Sleep problems are a commonly reported side effect of cancer treatment in patients. In its efforts to continue to improve the quality of life of local cancer patients, HSHS St. Vincent Cancer Research Institute is now offering a clinical trial that tests three possible treatments for insomnia among cancer survivors.
The clinical trial is called, Testing Yoga, Survivorship Health Education, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia in Cancer Survivors (YOCAS). The clinical trial, which lasts approximately 9 months, will compare the effectiveness of yoga, general survivorship education and non-medication strategies in the treatment of insomnia for cancer survivors.
Any classes or testing that require in-person attendance for the clinical trial will be held at HSHS St. Vincent Hospital Cancer Centers, located inside HSHS St. Vincent Hospital, 835 S. Van Buren St. in Green Bay. Cancer survivors who wish to participate must be 18 or older and meet certain requirements. Testing Yoga, Survivorship Health Education, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia in Cancer Survivors was created by the University of Rochester Cancer Center – a research base funded by the National Cancer Institute Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP). Approximately 630 cancer patients across the United States will take part in the study.
