HSHS Leadership in Health Care Reform

Mission Outreach Fellowship Program
St. Mary's Hosts Visitors
Stephanie McCutcheon, HSHS President and CEO greeted Sister Ann Pitsenberger, OSF and 10 other representatives from Eastern Wisconsin Local Systems at the first-ever Mission Outreach Fellowship Program. The goal of the program was to create Mission Outreach ambassadors and to provide HSHS colleagues with an opportunity to learn more about our Franciscan heritage.
Visiting Sisters, physicians and hospital administrators from Japan, along with several HSHS colleagues, posed in front of the Cancer Care Center at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur before touring various hospital departments and physician offices. The group shared ideas with their physician, nursing and administrative counterparts.
New President and CEO for St. Joseph's in Highland, Illinois
Peggy Sebastian, a nurse with more than 29 years of experience in health care administration, recently accepted an invitation to serve as President and CEO of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland, Illinois.

2009 Keeper of the Tradition Award
Rural Physician of Excellence Award
Diane Horn, Pastoral Care Coordinator at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin received the 2009 Keeper of the Tradition Award, an honor given to a hospital colleague who in exemplary ways carries on the traditions of Christian hospitality, servant leadership and the integration of the Mission of the Hospital Sisters into everyday work and service.
Peter Bonutti, M.D., a member of the medical staff at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, recently was honored by the Illinois Rural Health Association with a “Rural Physician of Excellence Award.” Dr. Bonutti was one of 11 physicians who received this statewide honor for going “above and beyond the call of duty” to provide health care to rural and underserved residents throughout Illinois.

Outstanding Patient Experience Award™
Sandy Bowe, Lead Credit Counselor at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chippewa Falls, was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Medical Credit Association, a state organization dedicated to the improvement and efficiency of medical credit management.
St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan received the 2009-2010 HealthGrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award™. The Hospital was recognized as being within the top 5 percent of hospitals in the nation in the delivery of exemplary service.
Hope Chest Project
Golf for Gail
The Maschhoffs recently participated in the “Hope Chest” project of the Friends of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese to underwrite the $500 cost of a new recliner for inpatient use. At the check presentation were Lowell Jones, St. Joseph’s President and CEO; Julie Maschhoff; Jill Timmermann, “Friends” Board Member and Andrea Toennies of St. Joseph’s.
College student Jamie Stark, 19, honored his late grandmother, Gail Stark, who died of ovarian cancer, by organizing a “Golf for Gail” outing. He is pictured with, from left to right: Zona Akbari, Director of St. Vincent Hospital’s Regional Cancer Center; Connie Worzala, Cancer Care Coordinator and Sue Watts, Development Director at St. Vincent. Jamie donated a total of $5,000 in his grandmother’s memory, giving half to St. Vincent Hospital’s Compassionate Care Fund to help those already diagnosed with cancer and the other half to the Cancer Research Institute for ovarian cancer research.
