What You Need to Know

Non-healing wounds are a growing problem spurred by the aging of Americans and the rising rates of diabetes and other chronic diseases. HSHS St. Joseph's Hospital's Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center offers advanced treatment options such as:

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy allows you to breathe 100% oxygen under pressurized conditions (in a chamber). This increases the oxygen within your bloodstream and wounded tissue. This aids in healing at a much more rapid rate and is highly effective for complex wounds. Typical therapy is a series of 30 treatments of 120 minutes at one time, preferably five days a week.

Bio-engineered tissue grafting uses high-tech materials that are very responsive to aiding the healing process.

Negative pressure therapies are also available to promote healing in acute or chronic wounds, fight infection, and enhance healing of burns. Special dressings and a negative-pressure vacuum is used to enhance circulation and remove excess fluid.
We treat the following wounds:
  • Diabetic ulcers
  • Pressure ulcers
  • Ischemic ulcers
  • Venous ulcers/veins
  • Traumatic wounds
  • Osteomyelitis
  • Late effect radiation tissue damage
