Two New Providers Expand Heart Care in Carbondale

Prairie Cardiovascular and HSHS Medical Group welcome two new medical providers to Prairie Cardiovascular-Carbondale at 409 W. Oak St. – Adhiraj Bhattacharya, MD, cardiologist, and Laura Kidd, DMSc, PA-C, certified physician assistant.
Dr. Adhiraj Bhattacharya
Dr. Bhattacharya provides comprehensive cardiac care for adults across a wide range of heart conditions, from new symptoms such as chest discomfort, shortness of breath and a racing or pounding heartbeat to ongoing heart conditions and risk factors that can affect long-term heart health. His care includes prevention, diagnosis and treatment planning to help patients better understand and manage their heart health.
His approach to care is rooted in compassion, education and shared decision-making. Dr. Bhattacharya believes strong care begins with listening and open communication. He takes time to understand each patient’s goals and concerns before discussing the next steps in care. By explaining options clearly, he helps patients feel informed and involved in decisions about their health.
Dr. Bhattacharya earned his medical degree from Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute in India. He completed both his residency training in internal medicine as well as his fellowship training in cardiovascular disease at Boston University Medical Center – Brighton. He is board certified in internal medicine and has additional certifications in echocardiography, cardiovascular CT and nuclear cardiology. His active engagement with several professional cardiovascular organizations keeps him at the cutting edge of the latest advances in heart care.
Laura Kidd
Laura Kidd, DMSc, PA-C, is a certified physician assistant with more than twenty years of experience in the field.
Kidd provides cardiovascular care for adults with heart and vascular conditions. Patients may see her for care related to high blood pressure, heart rhythm concerns, heart failure and other conditions that affect the heart and blood vessels. She helps patients understand their heart health, manage ongoing concerns and review care options that fit their needs.
Her approach centers on partnership and clear communication. Kidd takes time to listen, explain treatment options and help patients feel informed about their care. She believes strong care plans should reflect both current medical evidence and each patient’s goals, concerns and preferences.
Kidd earned a Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. She earned her Bachelor of Science (BS) in physician assistant studies from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois, and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in clinical laboratory science from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. She is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, licensed as a physician assistant in Illinois and is a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner.
