Hospital Sisters Health System and Lifepoint Rehabilitation announce partnership on new rehabilitation hospital in Howard
January 12, 2026
GREEN BAY, Wis. and BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (Jan. 12, 2026) – Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) and Lifepoint Rehabilitation, an operating division of Lifepoint Health, announced today that they have entered into a joint venture partnership to operate the inpatient rehabilitation hospital currently under construction in the greater Green Bay area. The 40-bed hospital – which will be named the Hospital Sisters Health System | Rehabilitation Hospital – is located on South Taylor Street near HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center and is expected to open later this year.
“We have a legacy of excellence in rehab services thanks to our colleagues who have answered the call to serve others in our community. This new partnership brings together organizations aligned not only in purpose, but in performance and values with a proven track record of compassionate patient-centered care,” said Bob Erickson, HSHS Wisconsin market president and CEO. “Together, we are advancing our shared commitment to providing the right care, in the right place, at the right time – an extension of our Franciscan mission to ensure compassionate care for all, especially those who need it most.”
The new free-standing facility will feature the only regional Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) unit in Northeast Wisconsin. A team of expert rehabilitation professionals will provide care for adults who have experienced a loss of function or disability due to stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, neurological disorders, orthopedic surgery, amputation and other conditions.
With 40 private rooms, it will double the capacity of the existing inpatient rehabilitation unit at HSHS St. Vincent Hospital, expanding access to inpatient rehabilitation care in Northeast Wisconsin and addressing a growing regional need. This partnership allows HSHS St. Vincent Hospital to repurpose the current inpatient rehabilitation unit to support acute care demand. The rehabilitation hospital will be specially designed to create a therapeutic environment for patients and will be equipped with leading-edge amenities and adaptive units, including multidisciplinary therapy gymnasiums, a specialized “activities of daily living” suite, and outdoor courtyards designed to encourage patient movement and activity.
Lifepoint Rehabilitation will manage day-to-day operations of the facility upon opening later this year. The facility will join its growing network of nearly 50 rehabilitation hospitals nationwide.
“We are pleased to partner with HSHS and know they share our vision to provide patient-centered specialty care,” said Russ Bailey, president of Lifepoint Rehabilitation. “At the heart of rehabilitation care is a drive to help patients return to their lives and families as quickly and as functionally as possible, and we know that a specially designed and outfitted facility like this enables our teams to provide more seamless and adaptive care. We look forward to working alongside the incredible team of caregivers at HSHS St. Vincent Hospital, HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center and Prevea Health to expand access to industry-leading rehabilitation treatment right here in Green Bay.”
The rehabilitation hospital will be supported by the Prevea Health physicians who currently care for patients in the inpatient rehabilitation unit at HSHS St. Vincent Hospital. The physicians will work alongside a diverse team of highly skilled nurses and therapists providing physical, occupational and speech therapies among other services.
The rehabilitation hospital enhances an established medical corridor off Hwy 41, adding to a strong foundation that includes the Prevea Medical Office Building, Prevea Ambulatory Surgery Center and HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center, where construction is underway for a new inpatient tower.
