Adult Services

Confidential and supportive recovery programs for adults with substance use disorder.

Treatment for adults is available in an outpatient setting in Green Bay and Marinette. Here, treatment planning takes into account each person’s physical, social, educational, vocational, psychological and spiritual needs. An important aspect of Libertas' treatment philosophy is to keep patients active and productive in their daily lives - in their careers, communities and with their family and friends. An essential component of the treatment process is for patients to assume responsibility for their own recovery.

Getting started

At Libertas, recovery for adults begins with a phone screen, followed by a professional assessment of the patient's medical, psychological and substance use history by a licensed substance use counselor. From that assessment, the appropriate level of care is determined for each individual.

With the ability to provide dual diagnosis, individuals are evaluated for both mental health and substance use disorder, allowing patients to receive the appropriate type and level of care under an integrated plan that effectively treats both conditions.

What we treat

Substance use disorders including

  • Alcohol use disorder
  • Opioid use disorder
  • Methamphetamine use disorder
  • Other drug addictions and substance use disorders
  • Co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders

Group treatment

The goal of group treatment is to provide adults peer support in positive and safe environment with a licensed counselor. Libertas uses medically and evidenced-based group treatment models that respect each person’s need for independence, focuses on their unique strengths, clearly defines expectations and encourages meaningful participation.

The number of weeks is based on individual need and both daytime and evening sessions are available. Group treatment includes individual mental health and/or substance use counseling as well as:

After completing intensive outpatient treatment or going through recovery transformation, Libertas recommends patients participate in a continuing care program. Continuing care is a less intense group meeting once a week paired with monthly family sessions designed to enhance an individual’s road to maintaining recovery and preventing relapse. This group provides education and focuses on connecting patients with community resources like support groups.
Family involvement is crucial for recovery. To support treatment and to better understand the serious nature of substance use disorder, family is encouraged to provide care and guidance during every stage of recovery. During treatment, this involves meeting with the counselor and ongoing support specifically designed for friends and family.

At Libertas, we recognize a patient’s support system may include other family members, friends or co-workers. We welcome all with open arms.
Intensive outpatient provides individuals with a structured level of care of 9 hours each.
Libertas Treatment Center currently offers group therapy for individuals struggling with guilt and shame from substance use disorder. Learn more.

Medication-assisted treatment involves a combination of medication, counseling and social support services to treat substance use disorder. Research shows combining these three approaches in treatment helps patients successfully overcome substance use and rebuild productive, fulfilling lives.

Taking medication to treat drug substance use is similar to taking medication to manage other medical conditions like heart disease or diabetes. Medications serve two purposes during treatment. First, they can help safely manage the withdrawal symptoms people often experience after they stop using substances. After withdrawal, medication can also reduce cravings throughout recovery, allowing patients to focus on their rehabilitation and personal growth.

At Libertas, a prescribing physician and licensed counselor work closely with each patient to develop and navigate their personalized care plan, ensuring medications are used safely and effectively while addressing the psychological and social aspects of recovery.

Medications for addiction treatment may include:
Buprenorphine or buprenorphine and naloxone to reduce opioid dependency, withdrawal effects and cravings.
Naltrexone to prevent someone with addiction to opioids from feeling the effects of heroin, morphine or codeine.
Naloxone training, education and distribution.
Certified peer support specialists are professionals who use their personal experiences to offer support while sharing real-life examples and proof that recovery is possible. They play a crucial role in substance use disorder treatment by:
  • forming empowering and supportive relationships.
  • using self-disclosure in order to deepen connection and inspire hope.
  • providing community and recovery-oriented resources.
  • helping with self-determination and goal setting.
  • creating an environment of respect for their peers.
  • seeking to understand all aspects of their peers’ lives.
  • supporting many pathways to recovery, wellness and meaningful living - understanding that each person is unique.

Libertas is also committed to connecting patients with a higher level of care such as inpatient withdrawal management, residential treatment and sober living options as needed.
