Mission Outreach sends first shipment of medical supplies and equipment valued at $1 million

It's been a week of celebration at Mission Outreach -- on Tuesday, May 5, we sent off our first shipment (40' container) of medical supplies and equipment valued at $1 million. The medical items will be distributed and used by Solidarity Bridge and Puente de Solidaridad throughout five Bolivian hospitals.

The average value of a Mission Outreach container shipment is about $400,000. This container to Bolivia is valued significantly higher because it is filled with medical supplies and equipment with a focus on surgical care, including a C-arm (mobile imaging system that provides real-time, high-resolution X-rays during surgeries) and a surgical microscope.

On Friday, May 1, Mission Outreach held a special blessing ceremony to honor the "million dollar container." We were delighted to have volunteers, guests, and a Zoom appearance from Solidarity Bridge leaders Ann Rhomberg, Jodi Grahl, and Maria Eugenia Brockmann.

Making life-saving surgeries possible in Bolivia

Seventy percent of the global population lacks access to surgical care that is safe, affordable, and timely. In Bolivia and Paraguay, where Solidarity Bridge and Puente de Solidaridad work, 13 million people do not have access to affordable and timely surgery.

For many years Mission Outreach has partnered with Solidarity Bridge and Puente to provide medical supplies and equipment that surgical teams, both local and visiting, have used to perform life-saving procedures while building capacity in the local hospitals to sustain surgical services when U.S. teams are not there.

The need is great -- but the commitment to support health care professionals in Bolivia and Paraguay is stronger.

Listen to Jodi Grahl, director of programs at Solidarity Bridge, share about what health care is like in Bolivia and how this collaboration between Mission Outreach and Solidarity Bridge/Puente will make a difference in the lives of real Bolivians.
