Farm Family Event planned for March 31

March 13, 2023

The HSHS St. Francis Foundation and its agriculture committee will host a Farm Family event on Friday, March 31, 2023, at Lincoln Land Community College in Litchfield. The event is free and open to all farmers and their families who reside in Macoupin and Montgomery counties.

Complimentary health screenings will be available from 7-9 a.m. and will include a comprehensive blood profile that screens for anemia, infection, diabetes, elevated cholesterol, thyroid, liver, prostate, and kidney function; a skin cancer screening; an oral cancer screening; a hemoglobin A1C check; and hearing and blood pressure checks.

Pre-registration is necessary for the screenings and may be made by contacting Crystal Lilley, HSHS St. Francis Hospital, at 217-324-8564 by March 29.

The day’s activities start with a hearty breakfast buffet, compliments of Litchfield Family Practice Center, beginning at 7:45 a.m.

At 8:15 a.m., Eric Snodgrass will discuss “The Wild Side of Weather.” Snodgrass is an atmospheric scientist with Nutrien Ag Solutions. He will highlight weather features to watch for in the 2023 growing season. Spencer Janssen, manager of Litchfield Farmers Grain, will offer his perspective on the grain markets and answer questions regarding grain marketing.

Following their presentations, the event will conclude with the presentation of the St. Isidore Friend of Agriculture award, a special recognition award, and drawings for door prizes.

“We hope this event will be beneficial to our area farmers by providing them with health screenings, timely information on agriculture issues and a nice meal,” said Paula Endress, director of philanthropy for HSHS St. Francis Hospital. “We appreciate all the work of our agriculture committee members: Lou Ellen Anderson, Eric Helgen, Jean Jubelt, Jane Martin, Bill Montgomery, and Kevin Niemann in planning this event.”
