Thank you to junior volunteers for summer service

HSHS St. Francis Hospital hosted ten junior volunteers this summer as part of its summer learning program designed to introduce teens to hospital operations.
Those participating in the summer program included: Nicholas Cochran, Maddox Compton, Nolan Dougherty, Ethan Endress, Kennedi Isaacs, Lilianne Readenour, Maggie Reynolds, Derek Sawyer, Payon White and Jessie Zhang.
Over June and July, the junior volunteers contributed a total of 256 hours of service to the hospital. Maddox Compton was recognized for achieving 40 hours of service, the highest amount among the group.
The junior volunteer program is sponsored by the hospital’s auxiliary, and volunteer Lou Ellen Anderson is the program’s coordinator. “Many of our adult volunteers began as junior volunteers,” noted Paula Endress, St. Francis Hospital’s director of philanthropy. “We are grateful and honored to have had the contributions of these young people this summer. Many also have other jobs, play sports and are involved with other extracurricular activities, so we are honored that they chose to give a portion of their time to volunteer at the hospital. Special thanks also goes to Lou Ellen for coordinating the scheduling of our junior volunteers.”
The junior volunteers received a pizza party as a thank you gift for their service. Those interested in being a part of next summer’s junior volunteer program may complete an online application which will be available in spring 2024. Junior volunteers must be 14 years of age by June 1, have at least a C average and willing to volunteer at least two hours per week during June and July. Applications must be submitted by April 15.
