Chief Physician Executive named

HSHS St. John’s Hospital announced a new Chief Physician Executive. Dr. Ashish Tokhi, MD, MSc, CPE, has served as interim in this role since September 2023 and succeeds Dr. Gurpreet Mander, who now serves as Chief Medical Officer at Banner University Medicine in Phoenix, Ariz. 
"I am excited for the continued opportunity to contribute to the mission and vision of HSHS in this new role,” said Dr. Tokhi. “My family and I have been part of the Springfield community for 15 years, and I feel blessed to serve the region as a HSHS physician and physician leader."
Dr. Tokhi has been with HSHS since 2008, when he began as an internal medicine primary care physician at St. Mary’s Hospital. He most recently served as the medical director for inpatient services at HSHS Medical Group in the Illinois region since 2014, and has served as a hospitalist at St. John’s and St. Mary’s since 2010, when he started the hospitalist program at both ministries. He played a key role in the expansion and success of these programs.Before that he served as 

Dr. Tokhi completed his residency training in internal medicine at Mercy Catholic Medical Center in Darby, Penn. in 2008 and his Chief Physician Executive designation in 2015 from the American College of Physician Executives. He is a member of the American College of Physicians, the Society of Hospital Medicine and the American Association for Physician Leadership.
